Verse Matters – what’s next…

Thanks to Seven Hills Film for the lovely highlights video from our Verse Matters ( South Yorkshire Poetry Festival) event in May at the Moor Theatre Delicatessen!  The night included performances from Salena Godden,  Kate Fox, Hive Young Writers (14-25s) Kevin Titterton, Angelina Abel with the CORS/PO performance, Mina Salama (Arts on the Run).

You can also see clips of the wonderful Jepps Books (Sheffield’s Radical Book Emporium) in the film. Sign up to the Jepps newsletter to find out the latest on where they will be setting up shop!

We also ran a great event for Migration Matters which included performances by Mimi Mesfin (translations read by River Wolton), Ruby Robinson (poet), Arash Sabet (musician, Arts on the Run), Lou Parra (poet), Cora Greenhill (poet), Ana Maria Sanchez-Arce (poet),
Danaë Wellington, Iram Ahmed, Zoe Cox, Tchiyiwe Thandiwe Chicana and more.

Theatre Deli will be moving to the old Mothercare building in the Autumn, but it has been amazing working in partnership with such an exciting and supportive organisation, and we’ve loved our time in the old Woolies!

After two years of amazing events, I’m taking a step back from Verse Matters for a year during my maternity leave from September, but leaving it in the very capable hands of the Verse Matters collective:  Kiran MB, Sez Thomasin, Salomée Béranger and Jo Irwin. Thanks, as always, to Kev Titterton and Mick Nott for running the S2 Foodbank at every event.

Look out for the Verse Matters Anthology in the Autumn! I’ve been co-editing the anthology with Helen Mort and it will be published by the brilliant Scarborough-based independent publisher, Valley Press.
