The London Magazine Short Story Prize 2019/20

It’s such an honour to have won the The London Magazine Short Story Prize this year with my story “Against the Tide.” I’d like to thank the panel of judges and everyone involved for their time and energy in making this happen, especially during such challenging times. I am sorry that it hasn’t been possible to offer my thanks in person, but I do hope to meet everyone in the future, when we’re through this crisis.

As I said in my acceptance ‘speech’, my story is about human encounter, but also about loneliness and loss. The story will be available to read in the June/July issue of The London Magazine. In these very uncertain times, I hope that writing and reading can offer the possibility of hope, connection and community.

Congratulations to all of the writers who were placed and shortlisted in this year’s competition – it’s a privilege for us all to join the prestigious short story writers recognised by The London Magazine over the course of its long history.
